PlayDead’s follow-up to breakout indie hit Limbo continues to be thought of fondly, giving the developer’s next game a lot of high expectation. Thankfully, Inside originally released exclusively on Xbox One for a brief period to critical acclaim. Again, you play a lowly boy trying to piece together the mystery the misshapen world surrounding him, solving all styles of puzzle-platforming challenges to reach a bittersweet conclusion. Inside’s ending is disturbing, weird and will have you pondering what just happened. This renders Inside one of the best Xbox One puzzle games.
A crossover between the Puyo Puyo series and the Tetris franchise of puzzle games, Puyo Puyo Tetris is a more colourful take on the block-falling antics players have grown to love. The rules of stringing together lines of the same colour to clear your board remain the same, except now players have the ability to mix and match play styles between solely Puyo, Tetris, or a combination of both. That’s double the value than if you’d buy either entry separately.
A more action-orientated approach to xbox one puzzle games, Superhot is a different kind of first-person shooter in that it isn’t fast-paced. Instead, time only moves when the player moves – thus tasking them to choose their steps and actions wisely if they’re to clear out a room of enemies successfully. Superhot is also a puzzle game that offers limitless replayability, with almost every scenario playing out differently every time you approach it.
