Regular as clockwork, October 6th, 2020 is when EA’s wildly popular football series returns in FIFA 21. Featuring an updated roster of official league teams, all-new ball physics and the most realistic-looking football matches, FIFA 21 is set to launch on current-gen consoles like PS4 and Xbox One but also PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X too. While much is still yet to be announced about this year’s version, expect FIFA 21 to take full advantage of next-gen hardware with updated visuals and mechanics.
FIFA 21 will also be releasing on Nintendo Switch once again, albeit as a pared-back version that won’t include Ultimate Team functionality or an embedded career mode. It will, however, tout the latest kits and squad updates from the latest season, but it’s the PS4 and Xbox One versions onwards to go for if you’re seeking the full FIFA experience.
Though releasing on PS4 and Xbox One in October ahead of the new consoles’ release, FIFA 21 will mark the first entry into EA’s longstanding series to launch on next-gen platforms. Expected to take full advantage of the Xbox Series X and PS5’s advanced hardware and graphical abilities, iconic players will look and play better than ever when both new consoles release in November, 2020. Plus, EA has announced that FIFA 21 will support free PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrades through the Dual Entitlement program.
FIFA’s highly popular online portion, Ultimate Team, in which players compete to collect and trade the best classic and current footballers possible is also set to return. Balancing will of course be adjusted depending on the value and performance of the players featured, adding an extra layer of depth whenever you take your FUT squad online and compete against other players’.
Because FIFA 21 releases ahead of the Xbox Series X and PS5, EA has laid out an official upgrade plan for gamers looking to trade up after purchasing the game on current-gen consoles. It’s called Dual Entitlement, and will enable you to upgrade to the new version of FIFA 21 for a full year – until the release of FIFA 22. Better yet, any in-game progress you make will transfer over across generations.
