There’s a new console coming from Nintendo, codenamed ‘NX.’ Nintendo is apparently going to share more details soon. As we discussed on Medium, there’s a lot we know and don’t know about NX. But since we’re excited about what’s coming next from the makers of Mario, Zelda and Splatoon, let’s do some digging and speculate on what the first Nintendo NX games could be.
Dragon Quest X and Dragon Quest XI
Square Enix held a press conference announcing new game Dragon Quest XI in July 2015. The surprise news? The game’s producer reportedly said this:
“Dragon Quest XI, which we announced today, as well as Dragon Quest X, which I’m working as a producer, are planned for release on the NX, which Nintendo is currently developing.”
The company later retracted the statement, but still said NX versions are “under consideration.” Sounds very promising to us.
A new 3D Mario
When Nintendo wants to showcase the power of its new console, it often does so by launching with a 3D Mario game. Nintendo 64’s Super Mario 64 pretty much changed gaming forever. Super Mario Galaxy (which was shown but not released during the Wii launch) was about the closest Wii got to a graphical showcase.
NX will definitely have a 3D Mario game. Will it be a launch title? We hope so!
The Legend of Zelda Wii U NX
A lot of Nintendo fans are excited about Zelda Wii U. That trailer looks like a Studio Ghibli movie you can play. It’s amazing.
Since the game got delayed to 2016, many are speculating that development has been shifted to NX. It kind of makes sense; Wii U’s sales are poor, which means the new Zelda game won’t sell that many and there’s a precedent – Twilight Princess was originally planned as a Gamecube exclusive, but ended up being a Wii launch title.
Whatever happens, we can’t wait to play the new Zelda.
A bunch of Wii U ports
It’s no secret Wii U has sold badly – that’s why the NX is coming so soon. But the system does have some truly incredible games, like Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros Wii U and Splatoon, all of which have been bought by a big percentage of Wii U players.
So why waste these great games? Some have speculated Nintendo will port them to NX, where hopefully they can find a bigger audience. Nintendo should be able to upgrade the graphics a bit too.
Are you looking forward to Nintendo NX?
So those are our informed guesses about the first NX games. What do you think? Are you looking forward to the new system? Will it do better than Wii U? And which game would make you rush out and buy one? Let us know in the comments.
