We previously reported that Ubisoft’s E3-style digital presentation – named Ubisoft Forward – would be happening this Sunday (8PM BST). However, it seems that one of the show’s biggest surprises has leaked well ahead of time, with a listing on the Hong Kong PlayStation Store confirming Giancarlo Esposito as Far Cry 6’s villain.
Of course, ever since Far Cry 3 Ubisoft’s open-world FPS series has placed great emphasis on having a raving lunatic as the game’s main villain, with the likes of Far Cry 4’s Pagan Min and Far Cry 5’s Joseph Seed piggybacking off the success of Vaas from Far Cry 3. Giancarlo Esposito’s appearance as the new big bad, however, represents the largest instance of ‘stunt casting’ for the series yet.
The link to the original listing has now disappeared (of course!) but you can read the basic premise for the upcoming game via the screenshot image below:
It’s also worth pointing out that the PS Store listing suggests that the release of the game could be as early as 18th February 2021. Here’s hoping this date is officially confirmed as part of Ubisoft Forward this coming Sunday. Giancarlo Esposito previously teased that he had a big role in a major series. Now we know in what form that will take, hence why this news being false is highly unlikely.
