Upgrade PS3 Games to PS4 Games Programme Detailed

View all blog posts

Following on from the announcement at gamescom, that you will be able to upgrade your PS3 games to the PS4 version of the game for a small fee, more details have been released on just how this will work.

There are a number of games that this will work with including: Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty:Ghosts, NBA 2k14, Watch Dogs or FIFA 14. You will be able to spend a small fee ( £9.99 has been thrown around as a figure) specified by the publisher to upgrade to the ps4 version.

So, just how do you go about doing this? It’s quite clever really, after the game has been activated from playing on your PS3, when you go to the PS Store you will see the PS4 version available at a discounted price, say £9.99.

However be warned that you will not be able to trade in your PS3 Disk of the game as this will be required to play the PS4 version. Essentially your PS3 game becomes a PS4 game. Also this will only last a number of weeks after the PS4 launch: Assassin’s Creed IV and Watch Dogs upgrade will end 31st January whilst Battlefield and Call of Duty will end 31st of March.

If I buy the ps4 for my son for home will he still be able to play his games on his ps3 that he will keep at his Nan’s he is autistic so play stations are his only interest, as the ps 4 converts games to ps4 games does that mean he cannot use them on his ps 3 ???

Hi Michelle, he will still be able to play his games on his PlayStation 3 as well! Although currently we don’t know if he will be able to use the same save between the two consoles. We will let you know as soon as we find out.
