The PlayStation 5 is generally regarded as a pretty awesome console. However, a small qualm some purchasers had during its November launch, was that the only colour it was initially available in was a bright white tone. Well, a traditional black PlayStation 5 console may not be on the cards yet, but two new Dualsense potentially now hint that we may be getting a step closer.

Unveiled earlier today over on the official PlayStation Blog, Sony has announced that two new Dualsense colour SKUs will be made available as early next month. Midnight Black and Cosmic Red are the very first alternate options for the haptic trigger-equipped gamepad, replacing the standard version’s white overtones with those that are much more striking. Both colours, PlayStation’s Isabelle Tomatis said, are inspired by shades “found throughout the cosmos”.

The Midnight Black Dualsense controller is more in line with the look we’ve come to expect from previous PlayStation gamepads. Coated in a sleek-looking matte black shade that really works with the blue lightbar sitting underneath the touchpad, it’s an understated aesthetic that looks stunning and shouldn’t be as much of a dirt magnet. Cosmic Red, meanwhile, is a secondary option for PS5 players wanting to make a bit more of a fashion statement. Combining a deep, almost crimson-like red with the natural black shade of the Dualsense controller’s lower half, this is a gamepad design we can see being extremely popular.

On the new Dualsense colourways, members from the PlayStation design team had this to say:

“Both Midnight Black and Cosmic Red feature a subtle blue hue, that produces unique shades of red and black. A blue hue is also present in the original DualSense wireless controller colors, so all three colors complement each other nicely. The controller’s button colors and detailing has been tailored to complement the new colors as well. We hope these new additions will bring further joy and excitement to our fans’ gaming experience.”

No official date in June was given for when we can expect both Dualsense controllers to land on shelves, but Sony does state that this will “vary by location” – possibly due to certain components still being throttled worldwide. However, expect both controllers to retail here in the UK for the standard £59.99 RRP.
