GTA Trilogy: The Definitive Edition. What do we know? Release date, platforms and potential costs.

There is much excitement following the official unveiling of the remastered GTA trilogy, consisting of the games GTA III, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas. Although the release has been the victim of many leaks; it is nice to see it shown by Rockstar themselves in an official capacity. The video below is the official teaser from Rockstar;

The release is said to harness enhanced visuals alongside quality of life improvements that are more fitting to the games of today. However, we’re yet to see any actual gameplay of the remaster, only a small teaser trailer that can be seen below. Furthermore, it is important to note that these games are a remaster and not a full-scale remake in the ilk of something like Capcom’s Resident Evil 2.

GTA Trilogy Release Date and platforms

So, in terms of an official capacity we don’t actually know what the GTA Trilogy release date will be, however Polish games news outlet PPE have reported via their retailer sources that the game will have a physical release. They specified that the date for the physical release of the PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions of the trilogy will be on the 7th of December 2021 meanwhile the new-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X physical versions will come some time into 2022.

Now, it is important to take these dates with a pinch of salt and hold out for something official from Rockstar; the 20th anniversary of GTA 3 is on October 22nd (this year) so potentially more information could be released then. We also have no information regarding a digital release, however you could assume that would be sooner than these physical releases (if there is one).

Rockstar have already removed listings of the 3 original games on digital storefronts; which would suggest they’d be releasing the game digitally sometime soon; most likely before these physical release dates.

How much will the GTA Trilogy Cost?

As the GTA trilogy is not a full remake but rather a remaster, it’s price point is something that will most likely cause some controversy if it is priced high. Retailer base.com actually had the pre-order listings recently at £70 for PS5 and Xbox Series X and £60 for PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. These listings were swiftly removed so we’re unsure if this will be the definite starting price but it would make sense.

We’re interested to know what you guys would be willing to pay for this remaster? For me I think we need to see more of what Rockstar is offering to be able to answer that question, which hopefully we will soon. Want to whet your appetite further? Watch the official teaser video below;
