FIFA 19 PS4 Pro bundle mock up design

Update: A little over a week after this post went live (August 15th), Sony officially announced six FIFA 19 bundles. You can read about them here.

The football season has begun again, a whole three weeks after the end of the World Cup. The return of the beautiful game can only mean one thing; the new edition of FIFA is right around the corner.

Indeed, FIFA 19 will be with us on the 28th of September. If past years are anything to go by, we’ll be seeing plenty of interest in not only the game, but the FIFA 19 themed console bundles too.

In this post, we’ll break down what we expect from this year’s crop of FIFA 19 PS4 bundles. Above you’ll see an idea of what we think the box art could end up looking like.

How many bundles will there be?

Last year, Sony won back the marketing rights for FIFA, meaning they became able to produce PS4 bundles with the game exclusively. Knowing just how popular the FIFA series is, they used the opportunity to test a new tactic.

Historically, we’ve typically seen only one or two bundles per game, often a basic version of the console with the game and sometimes a special edition console with the game. However, last year Sony released no fewer than eight different bundles with FIFA 18 included.

With FIFA coming in multiple different versions, it’s safe to say that we’re likely to see a similar number again.

What will the bundles contain?

We expect to see bundles covering the three core PS4 consoles – the Slim 500GB, the Slim 1TB, and the Pro.

We also expect to see at least one bundle that contains two controllers rather than the standard single pad. We got a couple of dual pad bundles last year, however they were very tough to find and sold out quickly. Since then, there have been a lot more PlayStation bundles, particularly in mainland Europe, that have featured two controllers. With FIFA being such a popular local multiplayer game, it makes perfect sense to release bundles with extra gamepads.

It’s also a good bet that we’ll see some bundles with different versions of the game. These bundles will likely be quite limited, as one of the big selling points of the Champions and Ultimate editions of the game is the early access they offer. Once the game has had its wide release, bundles containing these editions will have more limited appeal.

With all this in mind, here’s our predictions for bundles we’ll see:

  • PS4 Slim 500GB with one controller and FIFA 19 – Standard Edition
  • PS4 Slim 500GB with two controllers and FIFA 19 – Standard Edition
  • PS4 Slim 500GB with one controller and FIFA 19 – Champions Edition
  • PS4 Slim 1TB with one controller and FIFA 19 – Standard Edition
  • PS4 Slim 1TB with two controllers and FIFA 19 – Standard Edition
  • PS4 Slim 1TB with one controller and FIFA 19 – Champions Edition
  • PS4 Pro 1TB with one controller and FIFA 19 – Standard Edition
  • PS4 Pro 1TB with one controller and FIFA 19 – Champions Edition

Will there be any Xbox One/ Switch FIFA 19 bundles?

In a word, no. Though plenty of places will be selling bundling Xbox One or Nintendo Switch consoles with FIFA 19, you won’t see any ‘hard’ bundles, where the console’s box includes the FIFA 19 artwork and a download code for the game. Sony own the marketing rights for this year’s FIFA, meaning there can be no Xbox or Switch bundles.
