9. Tearaway Unfolded
3D platformers might be few ands far between these days, but Media Molecule changed that with the release of Tearaway Unfolded on PlayStation 4. It’s a charming journey through a whimsical papercraft world, following one lowly messenger’s journey to deliver a message to you, the player. The original version of Tearaway released for PS Vita and took advantage of its unique touch functionality, but this improved version remixes certain elements to make it perfect for PS4.
The Dualshock 4’s unique features are fully utilised by Tearaway Unfolded, requiring you to shake and tilt accordingly to complete certain tasks. One of the main mechanics sees you suck up items into your controller, before flinging them back into your screen with just a flick of the Dualshock 4 touchpad. PS4 games don’t get more arts and crafts than this, rendering it perfect for players of all ages.
Ratchet & Clank was a charming 3D platformer that first blasted onto the scene as a PS2 exclusive back in 2002. The PS4 iteration is a remake of the lombax and robot duo’s original adventure, quickly claiming the title as one of the most stunning games to release on the platform. Ratchet & Clank (2016) may have been intended to tie-in with the official movie, but it’s nature as a solid space adventure allows it to stand all on its own.
You’ll fly your way from planet to planet, smashing and bashing your way through legions of foes in the attempt to stop the evil chairman Drek. Each of the world’s oozes its own Pixar-like charm and is full of fun collectibles to seek out and find. What will keep you coming back to this delightful reimagining, however, is the core friendship between the two eponymous characters. This is a PS4 exclusive you won’t want to miss.

7. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series was one of the main reasons to buy a console back in the PS3 era. With that in mind, it makes a lot of sense that this fourth and final entry would be just as pivotal in many people’s decision to pick up a PS4. The journey of wise-cracking Nathan Drake may indeed conclude in A Thief’s End, but this globe-trotting journey is perhaps the closest you can get to feeling like the ultimate rollercoasting thrill ride in a game.
For Drake’s final outing, Naughty Dog upped the stakes by retaining the solid third-person cover shooting from previous entries, this time mixing it with sporadic open world elements that feel a lot more freeing compared to simply gunning it down corridors. Light puzzle-solving again also returns, adding in spectacular vehicle sections that makes you feel like your living your own Hollywood set piece. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is one of the best games on PS4.

6. Days Gone
Just when you think that you’ve seen it all with zombies in games, Days Gone comes along as one of the best PS4 exclusive games and uses them more creatively than most. These aren’t your grand pappy’s flesh-eaters, slow and prodding as is usually depicted, but rather fast, swarming and likely to overwhelm you if not managed correctly. This you do as lone survivor Deacon St. John, exploring an open-world version of Bend, Oregon.
Key to the experience is Deacon’s bike, which you can use to explore the ravaged towns in search of vital resources. These can then either be used for crafting or trading for upgrades within local communities. All these different systems work harmoniously together to make Days Gone a different kind of zombie game. So, if you’re looking for a more creative take on this tried-and-tested genre and want to explore a vibrant landscape, Days Gone is for you.

5. Horizon: Zero Dawn
Having slaved away on Killzone for well over 10 years, developer Guerrilla Games was keen to have a fresh start on PS4 by way of a creating a totally new game series. Horizon: Zero Dawn was the start of that, being a post- post-apocalyptic open-world game where you as a budding adventurer get to hunt and take down robot dinosaurs. It went on to be an award-winning success, with many critics praising how confident it was for a first release and just how deep this new universe had already felt.
Simply getting around the world of Horizon: Zero Dawn never ceases to feel freeing, as you come across settlements of unique communities, uncover new robot species and investigate more about what happened in the years before society’s collapse. All this is bolstered by some of the most satisfying combat found in an open world game, making it one of the best exclusive PS4 games around.

4. Shadow of the Colossus
While it might seem weird to consider one of the PS2’s best games to also be one of the best PS4 exclusive games, that just goes to show how everlasting and epic the experience of playing Shadow Colossus is to this day. Originally developed by Team Ico and then remastered in 2018 by Bluepoint Games, the Shadow of the Colossus remake retains the original’s simplicity while giving the graphics an extensive overhaul to make it feel like a modern game.
For those unaware, this timeless classic sees a lone wanderer on a mission to revive his fallen beloved. His only option to do so is by taking down the twelve different colossi that roam these open lands, armed with his trusty steed Agro and a sword that can continually become stronger. Shadow of the Colossus is a game made up solely of boss fights, with each one being more haunting than the previous. All this artistic vision and simplicity is what sees it make our list of the 10 best PS4 exclusive games.

3. The Last of Us Remastered
Considered by many to be one of the best video games ever made, The Last of Us originally released at the tail-end of the PS3, soon after treating PS4 owners via this remastered version. It centres on the story of Joel and Ellie, two survivors that are forced together and undergo an important road trip during the midst of the zombie apocalypse. Featuring emotional performances and great area variety, The Last of Us represents the pinnacle of video game storytelling.
The PS4 version comes bundled with the Left Behind DLC, which is a side story that sees you directly control Ellie and contextualises her life before meeting Joel. Environments and textures have been slightly overhauled to look a little nicer, but the core Last of Us campaign remains largely untouched. If you want to be immersed in a video game narrative on par with cinema’s best, The Last of US Remastered is most certainly it.
Marvel is in a great place right now. Just when you think its big screen efforts can’t get more epic or break any more financial records, Avengers: Endgame comes along to blow all expectations out of the water. Marvel’s Spider-Man is an open world superhero video game that capitalises on this trend, choosing to tell an entirely standalone story about the trials and tribulations about how with great power comes great responsibility.
As Spider-Man you’ll swing through an incredibly realistic-looking version of New York, undertaking side missions and saving citizens whenever you want to take a short break from the game’s main plot. There are numerous powers to master and plenty of alternative costumes to unlock, giving you cause to hunt down every Easter Egg and comic book reference. Marvel’s Spider-Man is one of the best superhero games released in recent years, and therefore one of the best PS4 exclusives.

1. God of War
What was once a PlayStation franchise known for being a testosterone-fuelled rampage trip through Greek mythology went a little deeper for its first soiree onto PS4. No longer was God of War just about mindless action, but in-depth and thoughtful over-the-shoulder combat that sets the eponymous Kratos on a journey of self-discovery. Aside from this, the game looks and plays great, utilising the full power of PS4 to generate amazing visuals.
The whole game plays out using a fixed camera that never once cuts. This is done purposefully to make us empathise with Kartos’ view on the world, making the new Nordic worlds of Midgard and Nephilim even more impressive without the need for loading screens. You’ll travel the nine realms with your son Atreus, embarking on a whistle-stop tour throughout iconic locations from Norse Mythology. God of War (2018) is one of the best PS4 exclusive games.

Persona 5 Royal
How do you follow up one of the most celebrated JRPGs of all time? With one that’s even more stylish, personal and well characterized, that’s how. Persona 5 is a PS4 exclusive game that ticks all these boxes and more, smartly iterating on what made Persona 4 so addicting to play and advancing the turn-based battles mixed with social sim format to make everything more meaningful. It just missed the top 10 list by an inch, but it’s still a worthwhile must play for anyone yearning for an incredibly deep and highly polished JRPG.

When Hideo Kojima announced he was leaving Konami in 2015 to work on something new, everything was left wondering what new crazy concoction of a game he would cook up. 2019 eventually gave us that answer via the ethereal Death Stranding, an open-world game where you’re tasking with reconnecting humanity amid the aftermath of the titular event. A lot of your time is spent meandering, walking and delivering packages, culminating in one of the most creative PS4 exclusives that, admittedly, might to be to everyone’s taste.

While Uncharted 4 may have indicated the end of Nathan Drake’s story, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy saw the series continue in a minor fashion via this spin-off that focussed on supporting characters Chloe and Nadine. It centres on the personal exploits of the former, who must venture to India in search of an ancient artefact important to her family’s history.
